I was just wondering how many of you have experienced sleep paralysis. Have any of you ever sleep walked? False awakenings?
I don't think i have any of these but what is false awakenings?
I never heard this term before.
Thanks
...and what Cala, may I ask is, "sleep paralysis?"
I have experienced sleepwalking and sleepwaking while still dreaming really peculiar
I'm not sure exactly what Sleep Paralysis is but think I may have experienced it. I've had a situation where I've woken up in a real panic, usually after a nightmare. I've tried to call out and nothing happens, and I'm unable to move. Its the most peculiar feeling.
Mel
Sleep paralysis occurs as you dream its a defence against you acting out the dream, which may harm you or in the case of a nightmare, endanger your life
Yeh, I've sleep walked before and sleep talk every night I think. Have woken myself up doing. What is false wakening though?
Sleep paralysis is when you can see and hear things going on around you. You can think and feel. But along side the real things, you sometimes have halucinations. So yeah, you can hear and stuff, but you can't move, even though you try. Usually comes with feelings of fear and not being able to breathe. Lol, and I hate it. I have it fairly often.
False awakenings is where you're dreaming, but in the dream, you think you're awake, you know you're awake and think rational thoughts, but you're really dreaming. I've only done that once.
lol, and I've sleep walked too, really embarrassing stories about that...
I think i had this thing where you can't move but you think you are awake. Also sometimes because i sleep with my radio on or television i can hear the radio in my dreem. For example i might dreem that i am doing a radio show and the songs i play are the songs playing on the radio and when i try to move the faders on the desk they don't respond lol.
Yeh, I sometimes sleep with the radio on, an when I wake up in the morning, I'll hear the news and realise that I already know what they're saying. I always have dreams where I think I'm awake, or I wake up from being asleep in my dream. I never used to have them much until recently... Wonder why that started.
And also sometimes i am dreaming that i am spinning round i don't know why and when i wake up i feel like dizy for a few seconds. I don't know why.
i've had some pretty bad dreams myself, very horrible nightmares... not plesent at all. i don't want to go back to sleep after i have them
I've had sleep paralysis sometimes; it feels weird! It has also happened that when I have the radio on I hear it in my dreams; it doesn't happen much with TV.
Yeh, I have the spinning around dream where I, for some reason start it, and then I can't stop. I always wake up with a headache which lasts the rest of the day.
i have had sleep paralysis, and i tell you it is scary.
you can hear everything as if you were awake, but you can't respond
oh, and my friend has sleep walking.
once at camp, he sleepwalked off the camp site and we had to call the police to find him.
lol

I used to be a light sleeper, now I sleep to much. I remember once I was on holiday with my family and they were all weighting for me to wake up. I thought I was awake so tried to stand up and fell on the flore. I must have been dreaming I was awake. But once I fell that woke me up properly. Some times I wake up as if I am not all there, like part of me is there and part isn't. I put that down to my medication.
I have dark menacing dreams about serial killers when I overheat in bed..they have a very horrible suspensful atmosphere and though I always know I'm dreaming, it's still a relief to wake up.
Hmmmm you know I have sleep walked a couple of times and all sorts of embarrassing things happen. I have also slept talked here and there. Of course, I have had several occasions where I think and feel like I am awake but really I am not. also in reference to the spinning dream, I dont' think I have had dreams like that, however, I had one similar where I thought I was falling and falling, almost like I was falling down a neverending pit or something. finally I would wake up and I would find myself sometimes on the floor, it was strange.
i've had a dream like tht myself. i really don't want to fall asleep after one of those...
When I have had sleep paralysis I sometimes feel like I try to get up but I can't. Then when I wake up nothing has happened and I am still in the middle of my bed. Weird!
...having just awoken not too long ago after having taken a refreshingly so afternoon nap..
well, sleep paralysis only lasts for a little while. I happened to read the section in my psychology book on sleep last night. During sleep paralysis, it said to relax as volentary movement will return soon. Lol, I usually feel vivid fear during SP but am aware of it enough to try to stay still and calm down.
I don't know if this is sleep paralysis. I think there's a stage of sleep during which you're not fully awake. You are about to fall asleep, but your arms and legs are very heavy. Anyway, I have had this problem off and on over the course of one year where one side of my face will start twitching, and I start panicking because I can't wake myself up. My legs actually stiffen and I can hear myself making this strange noise in the back of my throat. My brother thought it might be sleep apnea, but it's happened so infrequently, that I'm not too worried. I'm just trying to figure out what the heck is going on with me during this time.
well if you can breathe normally, it's not apnia. But if you're trying to move but can't, feel fear, and can hear what's going on around you, sounds like sleep paralysis to me.
I've had sleep paralysis and I always fall asleep with either headphones or a pillow Talk (a speaker thing that goes under the pillow) plugged in to my talking DAB radio listening to either Classic FM, BBC7 or Talksport, so I think I actually dream about things I'm hearing on the radio, and Sleep Paralysis can happen to me absolutely anywhere if the room I'm sitting in or the vehicle I'm riding in becomes too hot for me to stay awake. The worst place to switch off of course, is the classroom or lecture theatre in College, so I either have to wear a short-sleeved top all year round or take notes on a laptop to keep myself and my mind from drifting off in to nothingness. I had two sleep studdies to determine the cause of this rather annoying happening, but with the first, the camera didn't work and with the second, the results were inconclusive, even when I slept for about 8 hours that night, even though it was in one of those horrible hospital beds with a waterproof mattress and hot, sweaty sheets and blankets. We've still no idea why my body goes to sleep when it gets too hot. Before the sleep studdies, I got it in to my head that I could have a mild form of Petit Mal epilepsy, where I gradually just switched off, my face expressionless and I couldn't remember where I left the rest of the people and things in the room for between 10 and 15 minutes, but I was still aware of voices and movement around me. I will have a third and final sleep studdy, hopefully sometime in the near future though to determine whether there is actually an underlying medical problem which has just gone undetected for about the past 13 years.

Wow, and I thought what I might have is scary.
Hi. I've heard someone call my name just as I'm falling asleep. I've had sleep paralysis, and dreamed I was tumbling through space. But someone calling my name is even more scary to me than the other stuff I've experienced.
I've had sleep paralysis an false awakenings. As a mater of fact, I have pretty bad nightmares becau6e of false awakenings for some reason. I keep trying to wake up and I think I did, but no! Scary.
sleep paralisous is when you can't move while awakining. you can hear everyone, but you just can't move. granted, I never had anything like that, but I have slept walked before. freaky stuff.
I've slept walked loads, and I can't remember if I posted this or not, but my first time, I was little and walked into the kitchen and asked my parents for some cucumbers, and more bullets for an army man game me and my dad had been playing.
haha! that sounds funny! not as bad as when I woke up, actually, I was half way awake and half asleep, and I started saying,
"Where's my head! I can't find my head!" mom started laughing and just walked me to bed.
Some times I dream about having seizures. At least I think that's what is. I dremped I shouted out somebodys name just like I did do when I used to have seizures.
do any of you have dreams about you falling? and you try to scream, but can't no matter how hard you try?
Yes, and they're scary as hell
I also have this thing happen, and iit's freaky. I'll feel myself falling down, then at the last second, I am lifted up. then I start falling again, and at the last second, I'm lefted up. I don't know what's happening! my mom says I really don't move, so I really don't know whayt's happening.
I've had dreams where I felt like I was awake, but I wasn't. I had a nightmare a few nights ago, and it was so real that I woke up in a panic, and it takes a minute or two to realize it was a dream. I've talked in my sleep before, and it's quite embarrassing!
sleep walking and dreaming don't acur at the same time. The only thing active is your brain in rem or dream stage.
I've had sleep paralysis and it iw scary. And I remember this one time when my steo sister came in to my room and was getting on my case about something and in the process she must have turned my braille note on because the next thing I heard was main menu.
I have a condition called:
Parasomnia. It makes me think that I'm awake, and I've woken myself up several times, trying to say something.
Once, I woke up on the floor, with my friend's Dog Guide at my side, and my cat on the other. Appearently, I'd really fallen something awefull! The next day, my toosh hurt, and I had to ask why.
One time, when I was still trying to walk, I went into the other room, and told my friend I wanted to do something... Well, I don't think I should go any further with that, but when he tried to put me back to my bed, I asked why he wouldn't join me. I didn't remember this, but, I thought it was a strange dream... Until they said: "You really did that, and said those things."
I also had a seizure in my sleep once, and hit my head bad enough to cause a concussion.
That's all I can think of to say. Now, I hope you guys find my topics as interesting.
I also wake up sometimes, and can't feel my left leg. My right leg is affected too, but not as badly. They say it's what I call Old Arthur, in my spine. That's only cause I can't spell the real word. I also have dreamt of trying to find a bathroom, only to wake up in a wet bed. LOL
That doesn't happen anymore, but it was really embarraswsing, when it did.
I can't seem to settle down at night, so I need medication to sleep.
I have lots of spinning dreams, too ... although more when I was little. I also have this weird thing where sometimes I wake up and can't figure out for like two minutes if my dreams really happened or not. Lol. So sometimes I'll be like, "Did my mom jsut yell at me to wake up, or did I dream that?" When that really did happen. Or I'll think, "Did I really just flunk that test?" WHen I haven't even taken it yet, jsut dreamt it. Lol.
I have dreams that I'm doing things in my apartment, and it really scares me. I wake up and wonder:
Did I really do that? Did I try using the coffee pot while I was asleep?
It sometimes takes me the whole day to stop wondering.
I also have the spinning dream, but with me, I always end up on fair rides. I have to take tons of meds, to keep me from falling, when trying to get out of bed
I have heard stuff and dreamed about it with my tv's or radios. I use to have this dream wear I was falling down some stairs adn would wake up to me jerking my feet. In the dream i could see the first three steps then everything around it was black. Not to long ago I had a dream someone broke in my home, I coulden't sleep after that it felt to real. A week later I had someone who tryed to get in my apartment. I have a lot of those dreams. I also do the ones wear I sear I woke up before and did something or checked the time but when I do wake up the time if before what it would have been in my dream. I also talk to people in my dream. I use to do this thing wear I would kinda mmoen to relax my body. um sounds odd. I would just go haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa in one tone and tune. did it with my mouth close. I think i did it becuuse I was strest. I was out camping with my bf and woke him up while I was doing it in my sleep. I thought it was him till I did it agina and he woke me up to see if I was ok. Did it again a few days later. use to sleep walk. I think I might still do it at times don't know.
